Just to the north of Heathrow is one of Equinix’s many London data centres (click on map to open in Google maps).
The data centre is built in a converted light industrial shed and was opened in 2000.
The data centre is interesting as it is very neat, clean and tidy, unlike many other warehouse conversions and it has very low levels of security. As you can see below there is no large fence, barbed wire or access turnstile to the site. Having said that I was asked to leave the private estate very promptly.
This data centre looks to be hiding in plain site by looking almost identical to the other warehouses on the estate. I’m certain the building is a data centre as there is no signage, the car park is very empty, and from the air a lot of cooling equipment is visible (see below).
