Just north of City Reach, also alongside Millwall Dock, are a trio of data centres operated by Telecity (click on the map to open in Google maps).
Bellerive House, 1 Muirfield Crescent, occupies a red brick building that from the front and the dockside looks very much like an office block – see above and below.
The office was built in the 1980s was converted into a data centre in around 2004.
However, as soon as I headed around the back this building revealed itself as a data centre. The first thing that struck me was the bricked out windows along with the numerous frosted/ reflective windows and of course the occasional vent.
The building also had a curious group of outbuildings that a handy engineer informed me were providing the energy coming into the building. The engineer also confirmed that the entire building, right up to the eighth floor, was a data centre.
The building’s reflective windows allowed me to take another data centre selfie. Again the windows are dirty, which is another sign of a data centre as data doesn’t need a view.
The building connects to the next data centre, also operated by Telecity.
